STORY OF DOUHOU KOFFI ANGE FROM IVORY COAST

My Name is Douhou Koffi Ange and i am currently the Assistant National Secretary of the National Coordination of the Associations of Working Children and Youth of Ivory Coast (NCAWCYAIC)

Here is my story of how I adhered to the ideas of the WCYA of Ivory Coast.

My meeting with AWCY-IC was in 2008 when the AWCY of Grand Bassam undertook sensitization activities through football tournaments, door to door and the local radio station in the city. Since I participated in tournaments, I was very much interested. Then, I contacted the president of the grassroot group in my neighborhood which quickly integrated me into the grassroot activities; my friends and I, were greatly motivated.

A few months later, I occupied the post of vice president with the consent of my comrades. Thereafter, I became the president of the grassroot group called "Oddos." After the General Assembly meeting of the AWCY, I served as the in-charge of communication in the new office, of the Grand Bassam section..

I participated in meetings organized by the National Coordination. Because of my ability and participation in activities, my AWCY friends positively remark the efforts made. This has enabled me to represent the coordination meetings organized by international NGOs such as Save the Children, UNICEF, ILO, UNFPA, etc.. These meetings had themes such as: the development of national action plan to fight against child labor in the cocoa sector, culture and domestic work, training on radio programs and the development of educational messages on violence against children etc.. I also participated in meetings organized by the Government of Ivory Coast in particular of the Ministry of Family, Women and Children, the Ministry of Public Service and the Ministry of Tourism and the Craft industry.

These meetings enabled me to take part in the design and implementation of TV and radio spots on violence against children in workplaces, schools and communities. These spots have been shown and broadcast across the country.

The fact of being in the AWCY-IC, has allowed me to acquire knowledge on several topics: community life, advocacy, IGAs(Income Generating Activities), listening and guidance, design of TV and radio spots etc.I do not regret having joined this association which is, for me, a second school because it gives us what the school cannot teach. I congratulate and encourage all those who, directly and indirectly contribute to the objectives of the Movement through their ground actions.

Together let us say yes to a new and better world for the children
